Providing podiatry services

The Podiatry Service at Queen Mary Hospital (QMH) was established in May 1990. It provides both inpatient services to patients of QMH, and outpatient services to Hong Kong West Cluster. The podiatrist is a specialist who provides a comprehensive foot health service and reliable alternative foot treatments to patients. The podiatrist plays a major role in the care of patients with illness affecting the foot, e.g. diabetes mellitus, rheumatoid arthritis, etc.

Foot conditions treated by Podiatrists include:
  • Toenail conditions, such as Onychomycosis, dystrophic toenails, ingrown toenail, subungual ulcers.
  • Skin conditions on foot, such as callosity, corns, anhidrotic skin, skin fissures, tinea pedis, plantar warts, foot ulcerations.
  • Foot biomechanical disorders, such as flatfeet, toe deformities, plantar fasciitis.
  • Provide comprehensive foot health education, foot care knowledge and footwear advice to patient groups with high risk foot problems.

Modalities of treatment will be chosen according to different foot conditions. Treatments include minor procedures of the skin and nails; power operated mode of physical therapies; functional orthosis and foot appliances; topical chemical therapy and medication; foot exercise therapy; and special dressings and paddings.
